A WINTER’S TALE

My clock struck midnight.  It wasn’t Halloween anymore, even though it felt like it was.

I was in my bed, shivering from the cold.  I got up and looked outside.  It was the dead of night and only a few people were outside their houses blowing out the lights in their Halloween pumpkins.  That was the creepiest night I had ever experienced.  So I went back to bed and staring at me was my china doll.  It always frightened me, but not this much.  I tried to go to sleep but I just couldn’t.  Then, I was so tired that I finally went to sleep.  After a few minutes, I heard something that sounded like footsteps.  It couldn’t have been my parents because they were out with their friends at a Halloween party.  I opened my eyes  and the china doll was closer to me.  It was on my chair instead of my wardrobe where it usually sits.  I got out of bed and moved the doll where it was before.  Then I went back to sleep.  I then heard another noise.  I woke up and saw the china doll had moved even closer.  I got out of bed and moved the china doll on top of the cupboard and I said “stupid doll”!  I then heard voices, mum and dad were home.  They stayed downstairs watching TV.  Then I went back to sleep.  After a few minutes I heard another noise!  I grunted, and as soon as I opened my eyes I saw the doll’s face millimetres from mine!  It said “happy Halloween”!  It had a dagger in it’s hand and was about to stab me!  I tried to scream but nothing came out of my mouth.  It felt like there was something stuck in my throat and I couldn’t say anything.  I suddenly grabbed the china doll and smashed it on the floor.  The dagger fell on the floor and I panicked.  I ran downstairs and I am here now telling you what happened.

“I am very glad that you told us son”, said dad relieved, “me too” said mum.

“AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!” Shouted Ben waking up panting.  He ran to mum and dad’s bedroom and they were asleep.  He went back to his room.  He looked at his alarm clock, it was 9:00 am and the sun was shining brightly.  He looked on top of his cupboard.  The china doll was there as it usually was.  “Thank God it was just a dream” said Ben, or so he thought …….
