75 million school-age children in crisis areas around the world are in desperate need of educational support.
As I’m sure you are aware, many children live in countries affected by humanitarian crises. In Syria, 5 years of civil war have left around 6 thousand schools out of use, whist in Ukraine, the conflict has destroyed 1 in 5 schools.
A new emergency education fund called Education Cannot wait will be launched at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul on the 24th of May! It aims to rise $4 billion over 5 years, to reach 13.6million children in need of education.
We take education for granted in the Western World. It wasn’t long ago when Malala Yousafzai made headlines news by being shot in the head for promoting education! An inspiration to us all, she still campaigns for more to be done for the millions of Syrian refugee children displaced by conflict. She continues to fight against a ‘lost generation’ of those who will most likely grow up in foreign countries, stricken by poverty without the means to improve their situation.
