Children take this exam in Year 2. Competition is fierce as there are limited places of entry for the 7+. Students need to do well in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Good vocabulary, perfect punctuation and excellent spelling are essential for getting into top tier institutions.

General knowledge with 7 Plus One-to-One Tutoring

For this exam children primarily require an excellent general knowledge and a very good extensive varied vocabulary for story writing and understanding the comprehension topic. Inference and logical thinking are other important aspects at 7+ as is good verbal reasoning technique and non-verbal skills. Maths and arithmetic have to be approached skillfully and with speed, 7 Plus One-to-One Tutoring greatly improves skills

Children might also be required to do additional things, such as dictation, spelling out loud, mental maths and sometimes even art. Creative writing is the most important part of the exam in our opinion. Story writing skills have to be perfected and every essay has a beginning, middle and end. Students can take the 8+ in some schools if they have not had success in the 7+.

We push academically when appropriate and target all areas with precision and care.

This however may not always be possible and we prepare children with less time available to them too, but parent participation is absolutely essential.
