Elisa has had successes in top schools regularly for the following exams: 4+, 7+, 11+, 13+, SATs and GCSEs.
Below are some details about how the programmes work.
The core facilities at Elisa’s tutorials are:
- Group sessions, where between 6-12 children are taught by one or two teachers
- One-to-one individual sessions where the teacher tailors the entire lesson to the child’s needs
Most children take at least one individual session a month. This is to ensure that each student receives the maximum individual tutoring required to help them in exactly the way they need
We aim for students to improve with the involvement of their parents. Elisa has a word with every parent after every class.
These are specifically to prepare students for the extremely time-constrained conditions of entrance exams. We try and make this competitive and sometimes have a ‘race’ between all the students.
The idea is to begin to see working quickly as fun rather than daunting.
We cover a concept in some detail and then have the students apply it to a range of similar questions in a very short space of time.
Elisa has developed bespoke homework ‘packs’. They allow each student to maintain a disciplined and informative approach to their learning within a weekly routine.
This is discussed with the parent(s) in order not to overload a student. We recognise that they are also coping with their normal school work. However, we aim to complement this and sometimes work closely with their school. By this, we develop the students understanding of the subject matter within the curriculum.
Feedback is given at the end of every session.
Elisa’s
unique assessment techniques will find out the ability level of your child – and how they compare to others nationally. Once we ascertain this we can decide what type of school would suit them best for secondary schools. We will also be able to judge the type of school which will suit them pastorally, through interviewing your child informally and also through discussions with you.
The assessment will:
- Tell us what type of school would suit your child best
- Last for about 3 hours – depending on the child’s needs
- Tell us about your child’s strengths and weaknesses
- Inform our recommendations on how they can develop at school and at home.
- Give you an idea of their potential ability and how to meet it
This is followed by a post-assessment chat with Elisa where:
- You can ask any questions
- Discuss recommended schools
- Talk about what is best for your child
- Choose the right programme for success
Since we have students as young as 2.5 years old, we provide active breaks for our pupils when needed. If they are having issues concentrating for the duration of the session, we sometimes allow a 3-minute break. During this break, the child gets up, moves around and plays with one of the toys provided.
The toys are tactile and fun to play with. They reset the student’s brain and improve concentration. Generally this is more applicable to younger pupils, but can be used for older children as well. In groups we take a ‘food’ break.

Each lesson has a goal with measurable outcomes, that are explained clearly to the student. I like to involve the pupil in this process, and encourage them to either set the goal themselves, or suggest tasks which might help achieve the goal. This increases their involvement in the lesson and also improves their ability to study independently.
With younger children this can be done with a bit of drama included. After explaining an idea or method, I state I have forgotten it myself and need them to explain it to me. Successfully teaching a skill to others is a great way to cement personal knowledge of the skill. If applicable, I also ask the student to teach their sibling or parents as a homework task, or to explain the task to another child in the group.
