The King and Queen have been crowned in a wonderful historic ceremony at the Abbey. This is indeed a wonderful moment in England’s history as the last Coronation was in 1953 when the beautiful young Elizabeth became this countries monarch because her father died suddenly. Her speech at the time will be remembered and broadcast for years to come as it was all about serving the people.

Charles yesterday was anointed King so he too could serve the people.  Had Edward V111 the king’s brother not abdicated in December 1936 this family would not have been this country's monarchy.

I hope all children enjoyed the pomp and ceremony that only the British can show.
7, 000 soldiers marched through London. Two royal carriages were used for the occasion ,the Australians built/ designed  and gifted the royal couple a super douper modern one with built in air conditioning and a high functioning suspension but  they went with tradition and the old carriages in all their glory came out and rolled through the streets of London. The Mall and the Abbey were surrounded by well wishers and the balcony experience was enjoyed by millions.

Queen Victoria initiated the balcony greeting as a way for the monarchy to connect with the public and it is indeed now tradition. The most important members of the family are always on the balcony and so one can see who is important and who is not. Harry was not there yesterday but William the future King and his children were present.

There were wonderful moments in the Abbey I would like to point out. Penny Mordaunt was the first woman to carry out the role of Lord President of the Council hence carried the 17th century Sword of State into the Abbey and exchanged it for the jewelled Sword of Offering, which she delivered to the Archbishop. She then carried the latter for the rest of the service and walked with it in front of the King as he left the Abbey. This symbolises royal power and the king accepting his duty and knightly virtues.
A touching moment occurred between William the future king and his father Charles and was for me probably the highlight. A gospel choir added a modern twist to an ancient ceremony.
Coronation festivities are set to continue for the rest of the weekend with street parties, charity events and a big concert at Windsor tonight. I hope all children have enjoyed this special occurrence!  All our pupils at Kids Learn Fast have produced something related to this event be it a poem, a piece of writing or a picture.

Long live the king.
